The Wine Society’s existing members wanted to know the story behind their wine. They were looking for trusted sustainability credentials that would enable them to drink guilt-free and safeguard the wine industry.
In addition, younger generations – and future members – were increasingly demanding a genuine ESG narrative.
Sancroft assembled a dedicated team to support The Wine Society with the development of a new sustainability narrative. In the initial discovery phase, we examined the Society’s sustainability practices, and benchmarked this against the market and the expectations of members, suppliers, and staff.
This was supported by our PESTLE analysis (Political, Economic, Sociological, Technological, Legal and Environmental) on the surfaced information to identify the key ESG risks and opportunities that The Wine Society were exposed to.
This work informed the communications phase where we worked with The Wine Society to develop a narrative to support the communication of their roadmap to both external and internal stakeholders, focusing on the sustainability sections of their Annual Review and website, and a strategy explainer document for use internally.
At The Wine Society’s Annual General Meeting following the publication of their Annual Review and the update of their website, sustainability was top of mind amongst many members.
Staff were delighted with members’ knowledge and passion across topics such as alternative packaging formats, sustainable logistics, climate change, and biodiversity.
Ultimately, The Wine Society received an overwhelmingly positive response to their sustainability launch both from the industry and their members.
