And just like that, September is upon us – holidays are over, children back to school, and, for many of us, a return to our traditional ways of working, even if only partially so. Like so many other companies, we at Sancroft will be piloting our hybrid workspace this autumn, and are truly excited to be seeing our colleagues, clients and collaborators in person again soon.
At the same time, we are mindful that ‘traditional’ work styles need not be hidebound, and indeed it is imperative that we take this ‘refresh’ moment to ensure we don’t slide back into old habits, but rethink how we can work more energetically, more creatively and more effectively.
And we’re going to need all the energy and creativity we can muster to face the challenges that 18 months of pandemic have not solved, and indeed in some respects exacerbated. The latest report from the IPCC could not be clearer about the urgency of climate change. Charlotte Matthews looks into what the report says and how business can prepare to act.
Meanwhile, the Modern Slavery Act in the UK has imposed transparency requirements on businesses aimed at rooting out conditions of modern slavery – which still plague every business and supply chain on the planet, even after more than five years of implementation. Tougher requirements are now under consideration. Kwame Taylor takes a look at how these might affect businesses, but also how stricter provisions could help vulnerable people.
Finally, Johnathan Mounde has reviewed the recommendations arising from the National Food Strategy – an ambitious effort to re-examine the UK’s food system from field to fork to ensure resilience in the system, livelihoods for farmers, and healthy and nutritious foods for people for years to come – set against the backdrop of a changing environment, increasing complexity, decreased availability of agricultural land, and net-zero commitments.
We are looking forward to seeing you again soon, whether online or in person. Please be sure to keep a lookout for announcements as we plan our upcoming Autumn events and activities. We wish you all a safe, exciting, and meaningful time this season.
At Sancroft we seek to challenge business to think differently and to make sustainable profits they can be proud of. Please do get in touch to find out how we can help.
